Our Roots
South Street Gardens grew from humble beginnings. More than thirty years ago, Mike and Barbara Bruin started a small lawn maintenance and mowing company with one goal in mind—to build a family business rooted in hard work, quality, and care. Over the decades, that business evolved into Bruin & Sons Landscaping, a full-service landscape design and construction company known for its craftsmanship, reliability, and personal touch.
For years, the family dreamed of adding a nursery that would complement their landscaping services and create a place where their passion for plants, design, and community could flourish. They didn’t know exactly what shape it would take, but they knew it had to be something special—a space where creativity and nature meet.
A New Chapter on South Street
That vision came to life when the Bruins discovered the historic property at 383 South Street in Morristown. Formerly home to Glendale Florist, a long-standing family-owned florist and grower, the property carried the same spirit of community and family. After writing a heartfelt letter to the owners and many conversations and plans later, the family was able to purchase the property—laying the foundation for what would become South Street Gardens.
After a year and a half of careful restoration and construction, the space was transformed into a vibrant new home for the family’s next chapter. Today, South Street Gardens includes a nursery and garden center, a flower shop, and a home and gift store —a destination that blends natural beauty with thoughtful design and local connection.
