Rooted in Family.
Growing for Generations.
South Street Gardens is more than a garden center — its a destination created by our family — for yours.
Meet the Bruins
South Street Gardens is the vision of the Bruin family, built from decades of experience, a love of creating beautiful spaces, and a belief that the best businesses are rooted in family and community.
The story began with Bruin & Sons, the family’s landscape and construction company. For years, the Bruins imagined a place where clients could experience plants, materials, and design in a more personal way. What began as an idea for a nursery to complement the landscaping business quickly grew into something much more.
As the property took shape, so did the vision. A nursery became a garden center. The garden center welcomed a flower shop, home and gift, workshops, gatherings, and new ways for people to experience the property. Each piece was created with the same purpose: to make South Street Gardens a place where people feel inspired to explore, gather, and stay awhile.
At the heart of it all are Mike and Barbara Bruin. Mike brings a lifetime of building experience and a hands on approach that can be seen throughout the property, from transformed structures to the details that give South Street Gardens its character. Barbara guides the financial side of the business and helps keep the family’s growing vision moving forward.
Their four sons, Michael, Matthew, Ryan, and Robert, each play an active role in the family businesses, contributing across design, operations, construction, merchandising, and the everyday work of bringing South Street Gardens to life. The family has continued to grow in more ways than one. Camren and Thais, who both married into the Bruin family, have each taken on important roles of their own. Camren serves as Lead Floral Designer, overseeing the floral shop and bringing its arrangements and floral work to life, while Thais serves as a buyer for the Home Store and Event Planner for the garden’s event space.
Together with a growing team and extended family, each person brings something different to South Street Gardens, creating a place that feels distinctly their own while remaining deeply rooted in family.
South Street Gardens is still growing, but the idea behind it remains simple: create a beautiful place, welcome people warmly, and build something meaningful for the community and generations to come.
The People Behind South Street
The South Street Gardens story may begin with the Bruin family, but it is brought to life every day by the incredible people who have become part of our extended South Street Gardens family.
Across the nursery, flower shop, home store, events, food, operations, and everything behind the scenes, our team brings their own talents, personalities, creativity, and hard work to what we are building together.
Through every season, it is the people of South Street Gardens who make this place what it is and continue to shape where it is going.
One team. One family. Growing South Street together.

Honoring What Came Before: Glendale
Long before South Street Gardens opened its doors, 383 South Street was already a place where generations of local families came for flowers, plants, and a connection to the garden.
For decades, the property was home to Glendale Florist & Greenhouses, a longstanding Morristown business that became part of the fabric of the surrounding community. Like South Street Gardens today, Glendale was shaped by generations of family, a passion for horticulture, and the relationships built with customers over many years.
When the Bruin family took ownership of the property, they saw more than a collection of old greenhouses and buildings. They saw a place with history and a tradition worth carrying forward.
Rather than erase what came before, South Street Gardens was created with respect for those roots. The property has been thoughtfully restored and reimagined for a new generation while continuing its longstanding connection to flowers, plants, gardening, and the community.
Today, South Street Gardens begins a new chapter at 383 South Street, but we are proud to recognize the generations who cared for this property before us and helped make it a destination for gardeners and flower lovers long before our family arrived.
